Rem’s heart thumped after Dryer finished. Reinart appeared equally surprised.

Carlo stood. “This is bullshit.”

Dryer tucked the paper back into his folder. “I can assure you that it isn’t.”

Klein sat up. “As I said before, the assets will not be distributed until the will is settled in court, but hopefully, that won’t take long.”

Carlo pointed at him. “You did this, didn’t you?”

Klein furrowed his brow. “What did I do?”

“Was that your idea?” asked Carlo, “To keep the tiger away from me and Isabella?”

Klein shook his head. “I had nothing to do with Rowan’s decisions. He rarely listened to me when he was alive. I certainly had no sway with him when it came to his death.”

Carlo whirled on Robert. “And you. You’re his son? How long have you known?”

Isabella finally shook off her shock. “Carlo. Stop.”

“Leave him alone,” said Maria.

“What if he’s not his son?” asked Carlo. “Don’t you think he should prove it? What if the little bastard is lying?”

“I’m not lying,” said Robert. “I went to Rowan after my mother told me who I was. You think he would have believed me without a DNA test? I consented, and it was confirmed. I’m his son.”

“I can concur that the DNA test was done,” said Dryer. “Rowan confided in me, and I can provide the DNA results in the event there are any accusations that Robert is not his child.”

Carlo yelled. “That little shit and his whiny sister split Laroche’s estate and Mateo gets nothing until he’s twenty-five?”

“I get half his estate minus the art,” said Robert. “Most of his wealth was in his collection.”

“On the contrary,” said Klein. “Rowan was a savvy investor. His house alone is worth several million. The government will take their share, but you and Victoria will each receive a healthy sum.”

Carlo leaned over the table and glowered at Robert. “You killed him, didn’t you?”

Robert dropped his jaw. “What?”

“You and Victoria,” said Carlo. “You both conspired together.” Carlo’s tone hardened. “You killed your father.”

Robert shook his head. “I did not.”

“You were supposed to be head of security. What a joke.” Carlo jabbed out his finger. “You had the perfect opportunity.” He aimed a hard gaze at Rem, Daniels, and Reinart. “What are you three standing there for? You want your murderer? There he is.”

Robert shot out of his seat. “If anyone killed him, it was you. Everyone knows you’re a mobster and that Mateo isn’t your son. You probably killed Rowan hoping Mateo would get everything. That or your wife did it. It’s no secret she loved Rowan’s money.”

Isabella straightened. “How dare you.”

Daniels stepped forward. “Maybe we should adjourn this meeting for now and let everyone cool down.”

“I’d like to know where Victoria is,” said Maria. “I’ve called and texted, and she hasn’t responded.”

“He probably killed her too,” shouted Carlo.

Rem raised his hands. “Everyone needs to calm down.”

Isabella stood. “Excellent advice, Detective.” She took Carlo’s elbow.

Evelyn got up from her seat. “As enjoyable as all of this is, I should go.” She eyed Klein. “You’ll let me know when I can get my money?”

“Of course,” said Klein.
